It is no mystery that most cars break before their engines do. Transmissions and carburetors are the perpetrator for more cars’ retirement than engine failure. But sometimes pistons break and engines stop working and it makes sense to replace them. Yet a transmission with 75+ thousands miles on it probably isn’t going to last all the mileage a new engine will get – and who really wants to replace an engine now and a transmission later?

The smart and more logical method to avoid overpaying for engine mileage that you’ll never use is to buy a reconditioned used engine. Used engines will suffice for most of the life of a car, but are far cheaper than new ones. Why so much cheaper? As I noted earlier, most cars call it quits before their engines do so discerning buyers can not only get great deals on them, but can also afford to be picky where quality is concerned.

For shoppers who value affordability and quality and don’t need all of the mileage that a new engine will get them, replacing a busted engine with an inspected and restored used one is a no-brainer. Used engines can cost less than half of their new counterparts and do exactly the same job. But as with any vehicle component purchase, buyer beware – not all mechanics will sell you the value you should be getting. Deal only with credible suppliersfor parts – companies that specialize in sourcing and restoring used parts and have an recognized standing that they need to protect by continuing to offer quality parts at competitive prices. In this way, you can have some assurance that you won’t be getting ripped off with a lemon that won’t require mechanical work within two weeks of getting it.

Also remember that a used engine is a somewhat downgraded element. As such, it is more expensive to warranty and more likely to exhibit normal wear & tear signs of depreciation much sooner than a new version. But since new engines are as reliable as they are, even a used engine is likely to outlast other important (and expensive) features of the vehicle that will ultimately need substitution. Indeed, tires, brakes, radiators, compressors, air conditioners, generators, spark plugs, fuel injectors, and transmissions are all greater threats to your car’s overall longevity where reliability is concerned.

By replacing your broken engine with a used one, you can extend the usable life of your car without making a new investment in rebuilding it one part at a time.

You may be a small business, but that just means there’s all the more pressure to consistently be professional.

Most people will form their first impression of your company over the phone. That can make or break a business. Especially in those first 30 seconds, your customers begin to judge you by your telephone operating system, from how efficiently their call is handled to whether or not their call gets cut off after being on hold a few minutes. As a small business, you need to make the best initial impression possible, and that begins with your phone system.

Luckily, through small phone systems and business VoIP solutions, small businesses can have enjoy a professional operation, often at a cheaper rate than their traditional phone service as they often don’t have to pay for long distance, extra extensions, ring groups or voice mails. You can enjoy all the conveniences of a top-tier telephone system, probably at a cheaper rate than what you are paying now.

Changes in technology mean you no longer have to pay for separate phone and Internet lines. In essence, your phone system is run on-line, which means you can call any other on-line phone system for free. Since it’s on-line, it’s as free to use as email or other features of the web, but operates like a normal phone, the only difference being the lack of a long distance bill. Calls to traditional phone systems are also usually much cheaper, costing a small fee only when monthly allotted minutes have been used up.

What’s great about many of these systems is they put you directly in control. Often, you can change and gauge your phone system on-site yourself, using a simple to use computer programs that put you fully in control. Tweaking the system no longer requires a technician from your phone operator. You can usually do it yourself, even if you have a minimal knowledge of small phone systems and business VoIP solutions.

Truly professional phone systems used to be the luxury of the big companies. With VoIp technology, small businesses can easily afford the same level of professionalism, often for cheaper than they pay for local phone service. That’s good news for the little guys and just one of the ways business is transforming through the power of technology.

It is no mystery that selling insurance products is a great way to make money. After all, premiums constitute a long-term cash flow that almost always conforms to an insurance company’s actuarial assumptions, allowing them to pass on a good chunk of the premium they charge back to you, the sales person. Now more than ever, nervous investors and savers alike are turning to insurance companies to offer them the peace of mind that comes with structured products, propelling an explosion in annuity retirement demand. The protection of principle along with guaranteed minimum interest or rates of return is an attractive element of annuity products, yet because they are structured by the masters of risk measurement – insurance companies – the commission from an annuity sell is a very generous portion of the ‘premium’ the insurance company charges in return for carrying market-related risk of losing principle capital to market volatility.

As mentioned, annuities are extremely popular these days because of the certainty they guarantee the investor: a fixed or minimum payment for the rest of his or her life, with a real possibility for growth of principle. It does not take a pitchman to realize that in these very frightening financial times, individuals will flock toward safer, more conservative investments after having seen much of their net worth evaporate, despite its being invested in supposed low-risk ‘blue chip’ stocks like General Electric, Citigroup, and Macy’s. After years of being trodden by commentators for fees and sales charges, more and more people will be willing to take smaller returns during market recoveries in exchange for peace of mind and a guarantee of principle in the long-run. In other words, an annuity retirement is looking more and more appealing to the thousands of Americans who have watched 401(k) accounts turn into 101(k) accounts – so to speak.

In a word, to make an annuity sell one only needs to empathize with the millions of people in need of practical financial solutions for retirement. Several companies offer annuity products that are specifically geared toward mid- to high net worth individuals, allowing those with guaranteed income to leverage their future earnings toward greater principle and greater compound interest in a structured annuity product. To the salesperson, that means a high commission for selling a conservative and relatively safe product to someone who could really use it: the annuity will practically sell itself.

Before I went off to college, I had a list of all of the things that I needed to buy. Many of these items were much more expensive than I had anticipated and I was already working with a pretty strict budget. My parents were going to pay for my tuition and my room and board. I needed to be financially responsible for the rest. I had to buy all of the items that I would need for my dorm as well as all of the items that I would need throughout the year such as soap and toothpaste. I also was responsible for paying for my books, which proved to be another large expense. The savings that I had accumulated from my part-time job was diminishing and I hadn’t even started school yet.

I knew that I needed to have my own computer while I was at school so buying one was a top priority. I was majoring in teaching and I anticipated that I would be writing a lot of papers. I also wanted to be able to stay in touch with my friends and family via the internet. However, computers were expensive and I was concerned that I might not be able to afford one. My parents suggested that I take a look into Compaq refurbished laptops and Hewlett Packard refurbished notebooks. While I wasn’t sure if buying a pre-owned computer was the right option for me, I was willing to look into it.

There were several concerns that I had about before looking at Compaq refurbished laptops and Hewlett Packard refurbished notebooks. I needed a computer that had the latest word processing programs and that was going to be reliable. The computer that I purchased needed to be internet ready. Although I was undecided as to which model or style of computer that I wanted, I knew that I needed a quality computer that was going to get me through the next four years.

The Compaq refurbished laptops that I looked at were actually in very good condition. In all honesty, I really couldn’t even tell that they had been used. They appeared to be current models that contained the newest word processing program and that were internet ready. I was also impressed by the Hewlett Packard refurbished notebooks that I looked at. They were also in fantastic condition and did not appear to be used at all. I was very relieved that I had two excellent options before me and that I would get a great deal on a reliable computer.

Not all Los Angeles VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) providers are the same. You have to read the fine print to know what they are worth. It’s true that switching to Internet phone brings continual savings by virtually eliminating long distance charges, but the effectiveness of the service really depends on the provider’s network of bandwidth highways.

Los Angeles VoIP technology is truly taking off. More and more businesses are realizing the technological benefits as well as the savings that can be had through switching to an Internet phone. What that has created, however, is a surge of VoIP traffic on the Internet highway, resulting in traffic jams and subsequent delays of service.

While VoIP allows for free local calling, free zone calling and free calling to other VoIP phones, you can sometimes trade quality of service for these savings. The quality of the service is dependent on available bandwidth, which some companies overburden and stress with too many users, leading to frustrating interruptions of service and poor quality. If you choose a provider, however, who keeps a well-integrated network that allows for a freer travel of bandwidth, your service will have minimal disruptions without the bad reception.

Maintaining a continual traffic flow is not hocus pocus, nor is it a matter of luck. It’s simply a wiser routing and management of the traffic. Internet phone lines based on a number of alternating routes in order to allow for a  non-interrupted flow of bandwidth, will suffer fewer problems and delays of service.

Ask your company how many loops or links it takes to provide your VoIP service. Ideally, there should be only one or two loops, giving you the most direct connection possible. It’s also important how fully switched the network is. The more alternate paths that are available, the better and more continual the flow of bandwidth will be. If the provider is seeing high traffic through one stream, for example, the bandwidth can easily be rerouted in order for flow to be uninterrupted for the most reliable service possible.

Find out how well integrated your provider’s networks are. It will mean a world of difference in the quality of service you’ll enjoy, not to mention save you plenty of headaches in the long run.

Fluorescent lights offer affordable gardening opportunities, turning any inside room into a suitable environment for plants so that you can enjoy fresh vegetables all year round. As food prices continue to skyrocket, more and more consumers are growing their own food in simple inside operations, getting the most out of their space.

10 to 15 percent more efficient than a metal halide light, fluorescent grow light and HPS bulbs are best used as supplemental light, ideal for plants that flower. Fluorescent grow lights are ideal for growing seedlings, although several can be combined at once in order to grow larger plants.

Standard fluorescent and HPS bulbs emit a blue spectrum light, which can make a plant grow too leggy during its vegetative stage. This is similar to the sunlight at midday and is ideal for flower growth. Enhanced performance HPS lights, however, emit a wider blue spectrum, enhancing the plants’ growth significantly. It leads to a fuller, healthier plant.

Bulbs should be hung high enough in order to not negatively impact the growth of the plants. The higher the lamp wattage is, the hotter the lamp will be, so hanging the lights too close to the plants can burn the vegetation and dry out the soil. A light hanger makes it easy to adjust the length of the light, allowing you to vary it according to the growth and height of the plant.

Plants need different periods of light depending on the type of plant. Most require 12 hours of light, although some long day plants may require 16 hours. A timer is most effective at rationing the right amount of light. It saves you the trouble of having to remember to turn the lights on and off, and also allows you to take vacations or leave growing operations for several days while you are away.

Bulbs should be replaced before they burn out, generally every 1 to 2 ½ years, depending on how many hours per day you run the light. Older lamps may look fine, but their performance deteriorates considerably and the plants will suffer. Even after a year of use, an HPS bulb generally only produces light 85 to 90 percent as effectively, and continues to depreciate after that. Keeping bulbs fresh will have a dramatic affect on your plants’ growth.

Why limit your green thumb to nice weather and the traditional growing season? Indoor lights allow you to enjoy gardening throughout the year, continually reaping in a harvest of fresh vegetables.

I was in a dead end retail job. The store that I worked for did not offer any type of benefits, and they only gave me a quarter raise per year. I was absolutely miserable with my daily life, but I had to pay my monthly apartment rent and other bills so I could not afford to go back to school. But this lifestyle was taking a toll on me; I was depressed and gaining weight. I needed to make some type of change in my life.

One of my co-workers mentioned that she was going to check out a local school that offered a program that would help you to attain your massage certificate in a year. She said that the school offered evening and weekend classes so that she would be able to still work her regularly scheduled hours at the store, but be able to take the courses that she needed to in order to get a massage certificate.

I decided to tag along with her on the day of the tour so I could explore what other career options that I could possibly take advantage of. The school was located just ten minutes from my apartment.

When we entered the first thing that I noticed was that everyone inside seemed to have a positive attitude. Students and administrators alike were all cordial and enthusiastic. For people to be this happy, they must love what they are doing.

We sat in on a couple of classes that were in progress. One was a traditional course in the anatomy of the body. This class was very informative and educational. Then we walked into a class that was geared to help you find the perfect environment to perform your massages, whether it is a spa or a chiropractor’s office. I never knew that there were so many places that employed massage therapists. The last classroom that we walked into was a hands-on clinical class demonstrating techniques for people that had suffered sports injuries. This class was my favorite; I could envision myself performing massages on a number of people and promoting wellness.

After the tour concluded we sat down with counselors that provided us with some statistics. These statistics included: the average pay that a massage therapist could expect to make annually, how the demand for massage therapists was on the rise, and that we could expect to find employment in less than a month after receiving our massage certificate. Needless to say that we both filled out applications for enrollment on that very same day.

For anybody who wants to train in the art of BJJ at one of the Austin Jiu Jitsu schools they must  first decide on whether to train Gi or No-Gi. The term Gi simply mean that you train in the traditional Martial Arts Uniform like the ones you see in most karate or judo gyms. It’s a heavy or thick uniform that has pants and a long sleeve shirt with a belt. The term No-Gi simply means that you don’t train with a Gi and that you usually train in shorts and a T-Shirt or a rash guard for the people who want to reduce their chances of getting a staph infection.

The benefits of training in Gi according to the people who do it that it helps with you technique. This is because when wearing the Gi it gives people the ability to grab hold of it making it more difficult to get out of things forcing you to focus on what you are doing and making mistakes harder to overcome.  Also if you train in Gi you get a belt which gives you the opportunity to earn a higher color or level of belts. Earning a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is not an easy feet and is not given out to just anybody unlike other martial arts.

Guys who like to train No-Gi prefer it because it is more realistic to real life. They like to point out if you get into a fight you’re not going to be wearing you Gi. If you only train Gi you might not be a prepared for a real life fight. Also a lot of the guys that train No-Gi also train in mixed martial arts and when you fighting in the cage you will not be wearing a Gi. Some people find the Gi somewhat uncomfortable and just don’t like to train in it and don’t have any other reason for it.  Whichever you decide there is an Austin Jiu Jitsu school that offers the style that you are looking for.

At a town counsel meeting recently in Hampshire, town officials discussed whether it would be prudent to lease out public space to an outside advertising company to help offset budget shortfalls. The discussion is indicative of a trend by municipalities to capitalize on the abundance of available vehicle space and real estate they have in order to prevent further tax increases on property.

With the recent decline in online advertising rates and increase in popularity of SEO strategies, businesses are looking for new methods of Hampshire advertising because the online arena has become so overcrowded. While no one is talking about selling branding on local police cars – yet – adding small advertisements to the sides of garbage trucks, mailboxes, and adding billboards to municipal buildings promises not only to drive traffic to area businesses from major highways but also to draw foot traffic to those businesses that choose to opt-in to the relatively inexpensive program.

Critics charge that there is nothing to stop Hampshire and other municipalities from selling advertising on police cars, schools, etc – the proverbial can of worms. Yet proponents of the plan counter that it is an easy way for the town to raise much-needed revenue without having to raise taxes on the businesses and residents that form the basis for the town’s commerce.

The biggest takeaway from this scenario is that outdoor advertising sponsored by municipalities offers a good way from businesses to get into Hampshire advertising at a fraction of the price. In so doing, they are investing in their own community and will surely draw traffic from nearby highways that will bring prosperity to the whole town: a boomtown oasis in a desert of recession.
